Ravens do enough to get past Texans

-

Terrell Suggs led an aggressive Baltimore defense that kept Houston out of the end zone for the final 51 minutes, and the Ravens went deep in the playbook on offense to squeeze out a 23-16 victory in Baltimore on Monday night.

The Ravens forced three turnovers, two in the final five minutes. After Suggs stripped the ball from quarterback Tom Savage and Baltimore recovered, Justin Tucker kicked his third field goal with 2:53 remaining for a seven-point lead. Anthony Levine then intercepted a Savage pass to clinch it.

Suggs had two sacks, Alex Collins ran for 60 yards and a touchdown and punter Sam Koch threw perhaps Baltimore’s most significant pass.

Baltimore head coach John Harbaugh called for a fake punt, converted a fourth down with a rarely used pitchout and had quarterback Joe Flacco line up at wide receiver on a play in which Collins took the snap.

All of this added spice to a stagnant offense that protected the ball and did just enough to win. Armstrong to N.Y.: The Giants were awarded linebacker Ray-Ray Armstrong off waivers from the 49ers. New York also signed free-agent linebacker Jeremy Cash.

Armstrong was released Friday. He had played in 10 games with five starts this season, and was the 49ers’ secondleading tackler with 53 stops (38 solo), including one sack. Armstrong also had two interceptions and one forced fumble. Gordon back: Josh Gordon, who led the league in yards receiving in 2013, is expected to be activated by the Browns this week and make his long-awaited return against the Chargers on Sunday.

Gordon returned to practice last week after being suspended for two seasons. He dazzled his teammates, who can’t wait to see if he can be the same electrifying player.

“I plan for him to play, and play as much as he can handle,” Cleveland head coach Hue Jackson said. Injury updates: Denver quarterback Paxton Lynch will miss two to four weeks with a high right ankle sprain, head coach Vance Joseph announced. Trevor Siemian will start. .. Seattle will be without strong safety Kam Chancellor for the rest of the season because of a neck injury, head coach Pete Carroll said during his weekly radio show. Carroll also announced that defensive end Cliff Avril would be undergoing “diskrelated” surgery this week after being out since October, also with a neck injury . ... The Patriots placed tight end Martellus Bennett and special-teamer Nate Ebner on injured reserve. ... The Lions put safety Tavon Wilson (shoulder) on injured reserve.
