USF falls to No. 20 Arizona State

USF’s Jordan Ratinho scored 20 points but the visiting Dons could not slow 20th-ranked Arizona State in a 75-57 loss Saturday night.

Redshirt freshman Romello White scored 16 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to lead the Sun Devils (7-0), who are off to their best start since 1980-81.

Tra Holder added 15 points and Shannon Evans had 14 for Arizona State, which entered the Top 25 last week for the first time in nine seasons.

USF (4-3), away from home for the first time this season, was out of this one in a hurry.

The Dons led 3-0 then were down 9-6 before going scoreless for 7:24 and falling behind 25-6 with 8:31 left in the half.

USF trailed 40-25 at halftime.

UC Davis 81, Washington State 67: TJ Shorts II scored 20 points, Chima Moneke had 19 points and 11 rebounds, and the Aggies (5-2) finished the first half on a 12-2 run for a 17-point lead on their way to victory over the host Cougars (6-1), who returned home after winning the Wooden Legacy Tournament. Robert Franks had 32 points and eight rebounds for the Cougars. Franks went 12-for-18 from the field with five 3-pointers. Southern Illinois 76, San Jose State 58: Jaycee Hillsman scored 15 points to lead the Spartans (2-5), who got 10 points from Ryan Welage. Kavion Pippen scored 22 points for the host Salukis (4-2). Santa Clara 72, Arkansas-Pine Bluff 57: Matt Hauser scored 21 points on 7-of-10 shooting from three-point range and host Santa Clara (3-5) dominated the first half against the Golden Lions (0-9). KJ Feagin had 19 points and five assists and Henry Caruso chipped in 10 points, five rebounds, five assists and four of the 12 steals for the Broncos #1 Duke 96, South Dakota 80: Grayson Allen scored 15 of his 25 points in an eight-minute opening blitz for the host Blue Devils (10-0). Freshman Marvin Bagley III added 19 points and 12 rebounds for Duke.

#2 Kansas 76, Syracuse 60: Devonte’ Graham scored 35 points for the second consecutiv­e game for the Jayhawks in the HoopHall Miami Invitation­al. Kansas (7-0) is off to its best start in seven years. Tyus Battle scored 22 for the Orange (6-1). #4 Villanova 94, St. Joseph’s 53: Mikal Bridges scored 18 points, Phil Booth had 17 points and the visiting Wildcats (8-0) hit 10 straight threepoint­ers en route to a school-record 19. James Demery led the Hawks (4-4) with 14 points. #7 Kentucky 79, Harvard 70: Kevin Knox had 20 points and Hamidou Diallo added 19 for the host Wildcats (7-1). The Crimson (3-6) stayed close with 12 three-pointers, six by sophomore forward Seth Towns (25 points). #8 Wichita State 69, #16 Baylor 62: Conner Frankamp scored 17 and the Shockers closed on a 7-0 run, ending the 46-game nonconfere­nce home winning streak of the Bears (5-2). The Shockers shot 63 percent (10-for-16) from three-point range, with Frankamp 5-for-8 from beyond the arc.

#10 Miami 80, Princeton 52: DJ Vasiljevic scored 20 points and Bruce Brown Jr. added 17 for Miami in the HoopHall Miami Invitation­al. Lonnie Walker IV added 12 points for the Hurricanes (7-0), who shot 14-for-25 from three-point range. Amir Bell scored 13 for Princeton (2-5). #21 Xavier 89, #11 Cincinnati 76: Trevon Bluiett scored 28 points against Xavier’s crosstown rival for the host Musketeers (7-1). Xavier led by 17 midway through the first half by dominating every aspect. Jacob Evans III had 23 points for the Bearcats (7-1).

SMU 72, #14 USC 55: Ben Emelogu had 11 of his 16 points in a go-ahead run after halftime and Shake Milton added 22 points for the Mustangs (7-2), who stretched their home winning streak to 28. Chimezie Metu had 13 points to lead USC (4-2), which had won its previous seven nonconfere­nce road games. #18 Virginia 75, Lehigh 54: Kyle Guy scored 21 points and the host Cavaliers (8-0) never trailed against the Mountain Hawks (4-4).

#23 TCU 92, Yale 66: Desmond Bane scored 18 points and Jaylen Fisher had 17 points and seven assists as TCU (8-0) won its nation-leading 13th straight game. Miye Oni led Yale (5-5) with 18 points. Utah 80, Hawaii 60: Freshman Donnie Tillman had 16 points and eight rebounds and Dave Collette scored 16 as host Utah (6-1) led start to finish against Hawaii (4-2). Oregon State 78, Loyola Marymount 74: Drew Eubanks had 22 points on 10-for-10 shooting and four blocks for the Beavers (4-3), who got 18 points, seven rebounds, seven assists and three blocks from Tres Tinkle. The visiting Lions (4-3) were outscored 48-28 in the paint.

Arizona 91, UNLV 88: Deandre Ayton scored 28 points and had 10 rebounds to lead the visiting Wildcats (5-3) over the Rebels (6-2). Colorado State 72, Colorado 63: J.D. Paige and Prentiss Nixon each scored 16 for the host Rams (4-4). Freshman McKinley Wright IV led Colorado with 19 points, including 11 straight in less than two minutes to help the Buffaloes (6-1) cut a 17-point deficit to six with 5:26 remaining.

WOMEN

#10 Oregon 114, Weber State 87: Satou Sabally scored 22 points and Miramonte High alum Sabrina Ionescu had 21 points and 14 assists. The host Ducks (7-1) and the Wildcats (5-2) were a combined 34-for-67 from three-point range. Utah 74, St. Mary’s 63: Megan McKay had 16 points and nine rebounds for the Gaels (5-2) in a road loss to the Utes (6-1).
