Giants (2-9) at Raiders (5-6)

- — Matt Kawahara

When: 1:25 p.m. TV/Radio: 98.5 Spotlight on: TE Jared Cook. Three players are tied for most catches on the Raiders with 42. Two (Amari Cooper and Michael Crabtree) aren’t playing Sunday. The other is Cook. The Raiders will likely try to feed Marshawn Lynch and the running game, but New York has the 31st-ranked pass defense in the NFL and has especially struggled covering tight ends. Cook, who has three total catches in his past two games, should get some balls thrown his way. Injury notes: Raiders — WR Amari Cooper (concussion/ankle) is out. CB David Amerson (foot), G Gabe Jackson (ankle), LB Cory James (knee) and WR Cordarrelle Patterson (hip) are questionable. Giants — LB Jonathan Casillas (neck/wrist) is out. OL Justin Pugh (back) is doubtful. DT Damon Harrison (elbow) is questionable.

THE BIG 3

How will QB Geno Smith fare against the Raiders’ defense? The Giants have benched two-time Super Bowl winner Eli Manning in favor of Smith, who has a career record of 12-18. Smith has had some success against the Raiders in the past, but will be playing in just his fourth game in the past three seasons. If Smith struggles, will the Giants turn back to Manning?

Marshawn Lynch had a season-high 26 carries last Sunday against the Broncos and gained 111 total yards from scrimmage. He was given the day off Thursday to rest, presumably in advance of another sizable workload Sunday. The Raiders’ running game still ranks 27th, but seems to be opening up over the past month. Will that continue against the Giants?

Raiders head coach Jack Del Rio opened this week by saying the Giants “have our full attention.” New York might be 2-9 and dealing with fallout from the Manning decision. But its two wins have come against AFC West teams, the Broncos and Chiefs. A huge game looms for the Raiders in Kansas City — but it might not mean nearly as much if they don’t take care of business against the Giants.
