Emotional Warriors need to learn how to chill out

-

The Warriors could drop a nuclear Zen bomb on the sports world. On the world world.

Steve Kerr led something of a revolution when he plugged the Warriors into his ever-flow offense, and now he and the fellas could lead a revolution of a different kind.

The Warriors could go from the whiniest team in sports to the coolest. They could show us that whinin’ ain’t winnin’. Here’s how:

In a team meeting led by Kerr or Stephen Curry, the coach of the star would propose a threegame experiment. Nobody would cry about a call. No words of protest, no body language, no facial expressions, no sarcastic clapping. That includes all the players and all the coaches.

Almost impossible. BasketWhat ball is an emotional sport that is impossible to officiate.

Everyone cries, but the Warriors have become the poster babies for whining. Because they have so much talent, they come off like spoiled rich kids complaining about their lot in life.

Draymond Green is the team’s No. 1 blowtop, and Kevin Durant has followed Green’s lead, getting ejected three times already. Green is among the league leaders in technicals. If the team is like this now, what happens in the playoffs, when there’s real pressure?

Kerr recently said, “We’re getting way too emotional, myself included.”

He means counterproductive emotions. It’s a bad look, damaging to the team’s image and mystique.

if the Warriors went cold turkey on the crybabying? Easy for me to say. My wife tells amusing (she thinks) party stories about her husband getting kicked out of rec-league games. Hey, I had a reason to be frustrated.

There is a risk. What if the Warriors stop raging at the refs but the other team rages on? Would the Dubs will get squeaky-wheeled? Many coaches use that theory to justify their tantrums.

But what if the opposite happened?

Another risk: The Zennedout Warriors would be mocked as zombies, eunuchs and kissups. The manly culture of the NBA demands a constant verbal assault on the refs.

But what if playing it cool made the Warriors cooler?
