Herbert Farber
July 19, 1936 December 3, 2017
Herbert Farber, Herb to all that knew him, passed away on Sunday, December 3, 2017, at the age of 81, due to complications from his battle with Dementia.
Herb was born in Brooklyn, NY. He was an all-city basketball star at Boys and Girls High School, and played alongside NBA Hall of Famer Lenny Wilkins and former baseball star Tommy Davis, a lifelong friend.
Herb had a distinguished career of over 40 years in local broadcast television on both the sales and buying sides of the business, the majority spent at Westinghouse Broadcasting, now known as CBS.
He was able to parlay his business career to fuel his lifelong passion for sports, attending some of the most famous sporting events in history. He moved back to Marin County in retirement, where he surrounded himself with friends and family. Herb played lots of golf, rarely missed his poker nights, loved to go to the theater, and if you needed him, you could always find him with his Peet’s coffee group at Bon Air. Mostly, he cherished being with his love Betsy, and the laughs they shared together.
He was preceded in death by his parents Benjamin and Celia Farber, sister Eleanor Gershfeld, and brother Harvey Farber, and is survived by his loving life partner Betsy Kulemin, his children and their families: Lori, Mike, Travis and Brooke Taylor; Todd, Erin, Ryan and Samantha Farber; niece Sharon Gershfeld; nephews Brian Gershfeld, and Kevin and Iryna Gershfeld; ex-wife Wendy O’Toole; and extended family.
The family would like to acknowledge the care teams at Aegis and Sunrise Senior Living, and the kindness of Continuum Hospice.
We will honor Herb’s memory at his Celebration of Life on Sunday, January 7, 2018 11am at Marin Country Club, 500 Country Club Dr., Novato, CA 94949. Reception immediately following.
Remembrances in Herb’s honor may be made to www.redwoodcu.org/northbayfirerelief, to support the recovery of the north bay wildfires.
