Aram Serverian

Judge Aram Serverian passed away peacefuly at home from renal failure. Aram was born June 5th, 1932 in Woodside, Long Island to Garabed and Zaroohi Serverian. He was raised in Queens, New York and attended William Cullen Bryant High School and Hofstra University.

In 1957 Aram met Hasma Kilijian, and after a two week courtship they married in Fresno and moved to New York. In 1958, they returned to California at the same time as the Giants baseball team. While working as a court reporter, Aram attended San Francisco Law School at night. After passing the bar examinatio­n, he worked in private practice as well as with the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office. He was appointed juvenile court commission­er in 1976, a post he held until he was appointed to the bench in 1986.

Aram was an excellent athlete and played semi-pro hockey with the Sands Point Tigers and Jamaica Hawks of Long Island. Although born and raised in New York, he was a fanatic supporter of the Boston Red Sox and Celtics. He loved the game of tennis and after retirement was out on the courts in Redwood City along with the “Red Morton regulars.” He enjoyed reading spy and mysteries novels.

Aram was predecease­d in death by his sister, Irene. He leaves his wife of sixty years, Hasma, and three children, Michael Serverian, Linda Krikorian and Lisa Serverian as well as seven grandchild­ren.

His funeral will be held at St. Bede’s Episcopal Church in Menlo Park on December 16 at 11:30 A.M. In lieu of flowers, contributi­ons may be sent to the St. Anthony of Padua dining room or the Legal Aid Society of San Mateo County.
