Doris Rose Fong

November 1, 1927 - December 2, 2017

Doris passed away peacefully at her home in San Francisco, surrounded by family, on December 2, 2017. She was the eldest daughter of the late Suey Gee Wong and the late Mary Soohoo from Canton, China. Doris was a loving wife for 59 years to her devoted husband, Stanley; cherished mother to Cynthia (John), Patrick (Martha), Gregory, Pamela (Eric); adored grandmother to her five grandchildren, Cedric (Mary), Kaylene, Taylor, Claire, Anja; and great grandmother of Leiya and Ian. She was preceded in death by her four brothers, Marvin, Joseph, Walter, Karl, and survived by her sisters May, Lai, and Nancy.

Doris was born in 1927, and lived her early childhood on Sacramento St. and Kearney in the heart of San Francisco’s Chinatown. There, she grew up, where she attended St. Mary’s Catholic Grammar School, was an inspiring member of St. Mary’s Drum & Bell Corps, and then attended Girls High School. Afterwards, Doris spent her young adult life working as a dental assistant, while living in her parents’ home on Russian Hill. In 1958, Doris married Stanley, and together raised their children in the Sunset district.

Later in life, she used her spirited and feisty personality launch her successful career as a real estate agent. All along, Doris was a long-time parishioner of St. Gabriel Church in San Francisco. She always displayed an energetic and magnetic charisma around children, and loved to tell life stories of herself growing up in The City. Doris also had a passion for helping friends when in need, including mentoring, match-making, and house hunting.

Family and friends are invited to a Funeral Mass on Tuesday, December 12 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Gabriel Catholic Church, 2559 40th Avenue, San Francisco, CA 94116. Final interment at East Lawn Cemetery in Sacramento, CA for family.
