Ionescu, Hebard lead Oregon to win

Sophomores Ruthy Hebard and Miramonte High’s Sabrina Ionescu each scored 25 points to lead No. 10 Oregon to an 89-56 victory over visiting Washington State on Friday in the Pac-12 opener for both teams.

“Listen, these are our marquee players,” Oregon head coach Kelly Graves said. “They’re our best players and the team’s looking for them to set the tone, and they did.”

Hebard had 10 rebounds for the Ducks (12-2) for her fourth double-double of the season. With Oregon’s three-point shooting on the blink in the first half (2-for-15), she went to work inside for 16 points.

Louise Brown led the Cougars (7-6) with 12 points. Washington State played without its leading scorer, sophomore Borislava Hristova. #17 Oregon State 75, Washington 63: Marie Gulich scored 18 of her 24 points in the second half, including eight in the pivotal third quarter, and the host Beavers (9-2) rolled to their seventh straight win in the Pac-12 opener for both teams. Amber Melgoza scored 19 points for the Huskies (6-6). #14 Duke 68, Liberty 51: Lexie Brown scored 26 points, head coach Joanne P. McCallie collected her 600th career win and the host Blue Devils (11-2) got their fifth straight win. Utah 89, Arizona 55: Daneesha Provo scored 24 points off the bench as the host Utes (10-2) rolled over the Wildcats (4-8) in a Pac-12 opener. Arizona St. 72, Colorado 47: Also in a Pac-12 opener, Sophia Elenga had 17 points and seven rebounds as the Sun Devils (10-3) beat the host Buffaloes (9-3).
