Review helps Sabres beat Devils

-

A coach’s challenge by Phil Housley saved the game for the Sabres.

Rasmus Ristolainen scored 2:37 into overtime to give visiting Buffalo a 4-3 victory over New Jersey on Friday night, snapping the Devils’ winning streak at five games.

The game probably wouldn’t have gotten that far, if not for Housley’s challenge that nullified a potential go-ahead goal by New Jersey’s Taylor Hall.

Jack Eichel got his second goal of the game for Buffalo, a power-play score, at 11:04 of the third to tie the game 3-3. Only 1:17 later, Hall tucked a backhander past Robin Lehner to complete a breakaway, and Housley called for a video review.

Red Wings 3, Rangers 2: Frans Nielsen scored the only goal in the shootout to lift host Detroit over New York. Nielsen beat Henrik Lundqvist through the pads for his 47th career shootout goal and 21st winner, both NHL records.

Flyers 5, Lightning 4: Claude Giroux had three assists, and Sean Couturier scored the go-ahead goal late in the second period for visiting Philadelphia.

Blackhawks 4, Oilers 3: Patrick Kane scored 50 seconds into overtime to give 32-year-old goaltender Jeff Glass a win in his NHL debut and lift visiting Chicago over Edmonton.

Hurricanes 2, Penguins 1: Sebastian Aho scored the go-ahead goal with 1:55 left in the second period to give host Carolina its season-best fourth straight win.

Ducks 2, Flames 1: Rickard Rakell scored in his fourth straight game to lift host Anaheim over Calgary. John Gibson made 22 saves and Cam Fowler also scored for the Ducks.

Wild 4, Predators 2: Mikael Granlund had the second three-goal game of his career and Devan Dubnyk made 41 saves to help host Minnesota beat Nashville.

Briefly: Calgary right wing Michael Frolik will be sidelined indefinitely with a broken jaw, NHL.com reported. He was hit by the puck Thursday during a game against the Sharks . ... Chicago placed center Artem Anisimov on injured reserve with an upper-body injury.

Jets 4, Islanders 2: Blake Wheeler and Kyle Connor each had a goal and an assist to help Winnipeg beat visiting New York.
