Padres trade Solarte to Jays

The San Diego Padres traded infielder Yangervis Solarte to the Toronto Blue Jays for prospects Edward Olivares and Jared Carkuff.

Also Saturday, the Padres

re-signed right-handed reliever Craig Stammen to a two-year contract and designated infielder Jose Rondon for assignment.

Solarte, 30, hit .255 with 18 homers and 64 RBIs in 128 games last season for the Padres. Stammen, 33, was 2-3 with a 3.14 ERA with 74 strikeouts and 28 walks in a careerhigh 60 appearance­s in 2017. Golf: Dustin Johnson holed out with a wedge for eagle, made birdie on every par 5 and powered his way to a 7-under-par 66 for a two-shot lead going into the final round of the Sentry Tournament of Champions in Kapalua, Hawaii.
