Lawrence “Larry” John Chiesa, born May 6, 1948 in San Francisco, passed away peacefully December 14, 2017 at 69 in San Mateo after a battle with cancer. Larry attended Balboa H.S, class of 1966, then SF City College, where he met his wife, Elaine. In his twenties, he was a professional musician and played trumpet with the band Abel. Later, he was a hardworking salesman and entrepreneur; finally, Larry enjoyed the freedom of the open road while with Pelican Delivery. He loved the Giants, 49ers and Warriors, cooking shows, bad jokes; above all, he loved his family.

He is preceded in death by parents Peter J. and Olga Chiesa of San Francisco. Larry is survived by his wife of 42 years Elaine, daughter Jennifer and son David; his sister Carolyn (Chiesa) Woodworth and Ron Baldwin; nephews Flynn (Cheryl) Woodworth and daughters Emma and Haley and Jason (Tina) Woodworth and sons Zachary and Benjamin; and cousins Dennis Rushing and Jerry Granelli. He is also survived by beloved in-laws Shirley Galloway and her children Michele, Nick (and Susan, dec.); Spiros “Don” (Penny) Corempas, daughter Lisa and her family; Eugene Sparkman; and many cousins.

Larry was dearly loved and will be greatly missed. A memorial mass will be celebrated Saturday, January 20 at 1:00 PM at St. Matthew Catholic Church in the Chapel, One Notre Dame Ave. in San Mateo. Interment will be private. The family wishes to thank the kind and wonderful staff from Sutter Care at Home. In lieu of flowers, donations in Larry’s honor may be made to Sutter Care at Home.
