Sarah Balocco, 95 of Woodside, California passed away peacefully from natural causes on December 5, 2017 in Rancho Mirage, California. She was born in Redwood City on October 22, 1922 and was middle child of 5 children. Sarah grew up in Redwood City where she attended Mount Carmel school and later went on to graduate from Notre Dame High School in Belmont, California. Sarah’s oldest sister and brother were born in Italy with Sarah being the first child in her family to be born in America.

Sarah’s father George was a bootlegger who ran a speakeasy and her mother Mary was a wonderful cook that often fed clients that stopped by. In 1933, the family home and building eventually became Fabbro’s Restaurant in Redwood City. Sarah married Joe Balocco shortly after World War II, and worked at Wells Fargo Bank up until the birth of her son Richard in 1949. Thereafter, she was a homemaker who loved her family. She was a kind woman, who always filled the room with style and grace.

She and Joe were quite the couple who enjoyed entertaini­ng, cooking, dancing, playing cards and celebratin­g their Italian Heritage. Sarah was an outstandin­g cook and could host a great party.

She was always the best dressed, and continued to wear her heels at her assisted living home up until the last few months of her life.

Sarah is survived by her son Richard, her two grandchild­ren Ross and Landis and two great grandchild­ren Kaia and Dominic. Sarah also leaves behind several nieces, nephews and cousins. The Celebratio­n of Life Service for Sarah will be on January 12, 2018 at 11 am at Nativity Church in Menlo Park. In lieu of flowers or gifts the family would appreciate donations be made to Desert Arc, a charity that serves the developmen­tally disabled in Palm Desert, California.
