December 16,1929 - December 24, 2017

Girada “Roddy” Greenblattt Roddy Greenblatt passed away on December 24, 2017. She was born in San Francisco in 1929 to Rose and Morey Barde. She and her brother, Jerry, attended public schools in the city. Roddy went on to attend San Jose State and got her degree from UC Berkeley. Roddy married the love of her life, Si Greenblatt, in 1951 and was happily married to him until his untimely death in 1987.

Roddy leaves behind her nieces Cathy (Terry) Mitchell, Jill Barde, and Tammy (Bob) Vicari. She is also survived by her great niece, Jade Mariel Barde, whom she adored. Further, she is survived by her sister-in-law, Kathy Barde, wife of her brother, Jerry Barde, who predeceased her. Roddy leaves behind her basset hound, Denver, whom she adopted two years ago.

Roddy was a well-respected supervising social worker with Alameda County Child Protective Services until she retired to care for her husband. She continued to live in the family home with her basset hounds until she made the move to Rossmoor with her dog, Bridget, about 15 years later. She loved her dogs (one Irish setter and eight basset hounds) during her lifetime.

She continued to enjoy her life: travelling the world with tours from Alameda County, Walnut Creek Jewish Community Center (JCC), the Widows Network, and Rossmoor. She also enjoyed traveling with her sister-in-law, Ruth Greenblatt, who predeceased her. Roddy loved visiting Maui at least once a year, usually with her niece Cathy.

Roddy was an avid reader, loved musical theatre, shopped until she dropped, and enjoyed volunteering at the JCC as well as attending many events there. One of the joys of coming to visit Roddy was to approach the house and hear basset hounds howling to the music of a Broadway cast recording.

The family wants to acknowledge the dedicated caregiving of Joy, Myrna, Dylan, and Maricel who made it possible for Roddy to remain in her home.

Roddy was buried next to her beloved husband at Rolling Hills Cemetery on December 28, 2017. Donations may be made in Roddy’s memory to Golden Gate Basset Rescue (ggbassetrescue.org) or to the Alzheimer’s Association (alz.org).
