Louis Albert Meyer of Moraga, passed away on December 30, 2017 in the presence of family at the age of 80.

He was an educator, an alumni of St. Mary’s College, Moraga (Class 59) and graduate of Sacred Heart High School in San Francisco. Following 5 decades of service to Sacred Heart he retired in 2002 as Vice Principal; his dedication earned him the school’s highest award: the Lasallian Vincentian Alumni Award. The Louis A. Meyer General Scholastic Excellence Award, created in his honor, has become the schools most distinguis­hed academic award. Additional­ly the internatio­nal Institute of the Christian Brothers bestowed upon him their highest honor and installed him as an affiliate to the Christian Brothers.

Lou Meyer’s core driving force was helping others, through gentle counsel, encouragem­ent, and focusing on the good in people. He never stopped learning, contemplat­ing, and questionin­g; whether keeping abreast of current events or studying history.

He loved all things outdoors including hiking, boating, hunting, fishing, and wildlife.

Above all, he was a devoted husband, loving father, and grandfathe­r. He follows his wife of 51 years Virginia (Ginnie); and is survived by his children, Louis (Kelley), Michelle, and Chris (Gretchen); his grandchild­ren, Riley, Sammy, Kiran, Thea.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at the chapel of St. Mary’s College, Moraga, CA, on Friday, January 19th, 2018. Viewing will begin at 10:00am, followed by a mass at 11:00am. Interment to follow at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, 1965 Reliez Valley Rd, Lafayette.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to St. Mary’s College, Moraga or Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparator­y, San Francisco.
