June 17, 1928 - December 31, 2017

Early New Year’s Eve our beloved Mom, Grandma, Great Grandma—our Saint Jean—was called home by the Lord while surrounded by her loving family.

Born in University Hospital in San Francisco to Marandy and James Berutto, Jean grew up on Oak Street during the Great Depression and WWII. An only child, Jean and her cousin Norma Ballaris were inseparable. She spent her summers at Russian River, Fleischacker’s Pool, Sutro Baths, and Playland-at-the-Beach; as a teenage bobby soxer, Jean was swept up in the craze created by Frank Sinatra at the Golden Gate Theater. She graduated from Lowell High School in 1946 and St. Francis School of Nursing in 1950. Jean met Jack Henderson (d 1985) on a blind date in 1947. They soon wed in 1948. Jean worked at the Jewish Home for the Aged for 22 years as the Evening Supervisor. She was a Registered Nurse for 38 years. In 1955, the Hendersons moved to Linda Mar in Pacifica where they enjoyed martini parties with good friends, the McDevitts and Godsoes. In 1965 the Hendersons moved to Fairmont and the parties expanded to include the Mercurios. Jean retired in 1988 and became involved with the Church of the Good Shepherd. She was a member of Pacifica SWIM, assisted in the running of Good Shepherd’s CCD program, was former president and current treasurer of Saint Vincent de Paul Society (SVDP), a member of the Parish Council, and received many accolades by the Archdiocese. Jean’s greatest joy was her family and she was theirs. She is survived by children Julie (Ron), Jim (Valerie), Jack (Lisa), Jerry (Ramona (d)), Joe (Deborah), Janet (Dana); grandchildren Tiffany, Cristina, Laura (Marquis), William, Patrick (Yescenia), Sarah (Bo), Kristen, Nickolaus, Elizabeth, Matthew, Jimmy, Andrew, Robert, Emily, Stanley, Tommy and Shannon and great-grandchildren Marcus, Dante, and Luna. She is also survived by her cousin Jacques Roth (Helena, Andrea, and Sara). Viewing will be held at Duggan’s Serra Mortuary in Daly City on Tuesday, 1/9 at 4 pm followed by a Rosary at 7 pm. The Funeral Mass will be held at Good Shepherd Church, 901 Oceana Blvd. in Pacifica on Wednesday 1/10 at 11 am. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to SVDP or St. Jude’s.
