Loving husband of 53 years to Doris Hontalas (deceased 2007). Beloved father of Susan, Bill (Rhonda), Tom (Patty) Hontalas, and Kathy (Greg) Giannecchi­ni. Proud and devoted Papou to Sean, Jimmy, and Jennifer Linehan, Jacquelyn Hontalas, Jessica (Jeffery) Cotton, Katie and Lacey Hontalas, Dominic and Danielle Giannecchi­ni. Fond Great –Papou to Emily Linehan (deceased 2013), Kylie LaPlante and Jeffery Cotton III “Trey”. Loyal best friend of 82 years to Chris Vogiatzis. Predecease­d by his loving parents Louis and Helen Hontalas and his brothers, John and Gus.

Jim, a San Francisco native started working at his family restaurant, Louis’, as an 8 year old. He graduated from George Washington High School, class of 1948, and City College of San Francisco Hotel and Restaurant Management Program, class of 1950. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict, returning to marry the love of his life, Doris in 1954. Jim continued as the proud restaurate­ur of Louis’ Restaurant for 58 years, eventually passing the business to his children. Jim was a hard-working and generous man who delighted in San Francisco sports, dinners out, and ANYTHING involving his grandchild­ren.

Visitation begins at 5PM on Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at Duggan’s Serra Mortuary, 500 Westlake Avenue, Daly City followed by the Trisagion Service at 7PM. Funeral Services will take place at 11AM on Thursday, January 11, 2018, at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 999 Brotherhoo­d Way, SF. Burial at Greek Orthodox Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Holy Trinity Church Building Fund.
