LGBTQ critics’ nomination­s out

“Call Me by Your Name” leads the filmcatego­ry award nomination­s for the Society of LGBTQ Entertainm­ent Critics known as GALECA. In the television arena, the group favored “Big Little Lies,” “The Crown” and “Feud: Bette and Joan.”

The nomination­s for the ninth annual Dorian Awards were announced Wednesday.

In the film category, the nine nomination­s for “Call Me” include best actor and supporting actor (Timothée Chalamet and Armie Hammer, respective­ly), film of the year, director (Luca Guadagnino) and screenplay ( James Ivory).

Also nominated for film of the year are “BPM (Beats Per Minute),” “Lady Bird,” “Get Out,” and “The Shape of Water.”

Best actor nominees also include James Franco (“The Disaster Artist”), Daniel Kaluuya (“Get Out”), Nahuel Perez Biscayart (“BPM”) and Gary Oldman (“Darkest Hour”).

Best actress nominees include: Sally Hawkins (“The Shape of Water”), Frances McDormand (“Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri”), Margot Robbie (“I, Tonya”), Saoirse Ronan (“Lady Bird”) and Daniela Vega (“A Fantastic Woman”).

Best director nominees in film or television: Sean Baker (“The Florida Project”), Guillermo del Toro (“The Shape of Water”), Greta Gerwig (“Lady Bird”), Christophe­r Nolan, (“Dunkirk”), Jordan Peele (“Get Out”) and Guadagnino for “Call Me.”

In the TV category, best drama nominees are “Big Little Lies,” “The Crown,” “Feud: Bette and Joan,” “The Handmaid’s Tale,” and “Twin Peaks: The Return.”

TV comedy nominees are “Better Things,” “GLOW,” “The Good Place,” “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” and “Will & Grace.”

Best TV actress nominees include Claire Foy (“The Crown”), Nicole Kidman (“Big Little Lies”), Jessica Lange (“Feud: Bette and Joan”), Elisabeth Moss (“The Handmaid’s Tale”) and Reese Witherspoo­n (“Big Little Lies”).

Best TV actor nominees are Aziz Ansari, (“Master of None”), Sterling K. Brown (“This Is Us”), Jonathan Groff (“Mindhunter”), Kyle MacLachlan (“Twin Peaks: The Return”) and Alexander Skarsgard (“Big Little Lies”).

GALECA comprises more than 200 entertainm­ent critics from the U.S., Canada and Great Britain, including Chronicle Assistant Managing Editor David Wiegand. The award winners will be announced on Jan. 31.
