Clayton Valley boys basketball coach Eric Bamberger was not a fan of waiting.

After senior point guard Garrett Pascoe picked up his second foul for the eighthranked Concord school late in the first quarter against visiting Las Lomas-Walnut Creek on Friday night, Bamberger sat him down — for the rest of the half.

“My assistant (who does most of the subbing), I think I went to him 100 times that (second) quarter,” Bamberger said. “Should we put Garrett in? Should we put Garrett in?”

When Pascoe, a Boston University commit, did return to the floor to start the second half, he scored 11 of his team-high 18 points in the third quarter to ignite a 50point half for the unbeaten Ugly Eagles that sent them to an 83-62 Diablo Athletic League-Foothill win.

“It’s tough,” Pascoe said of sitting as long as he did. “But I trust my teammates to keep me up, and they kept us in that game.”

Clayton Valley (18-0, 2-0) had five players score in double figures and hit 11 threepointers, eight in the second half. J.D. Williams had 15 points and 14 rebounds for the Eagles, and Nick Klarman added 17 points and seven boards.

Pascoe scored six points more than his season average, but Bamberger noted this week that “he could score 20 every night but he’s much more concerned about getting everyone else involved and helping us win.” He did it all Friday. No. 6 Las Lomas (15-2, 1-1) was led by Jason Holman’s 18 points on six three-pointers. Nathan Robinson, a Walnut Creek native who spent his first three years at Sacred Heart Cathedral, finished with 16 points and seven assists. #1 Salesian-Richmond 53, #17 St. Patrick-St. Vincent-Vallejo 51: Shane Bell had 13 points and JoVon McClanahan and James Akinjo added 12 each as the Pride (19-1, 3-0 Tri-County Athletic League Rock) held off the host Bruins (11-6, 2-2), who got 12 points by Dishon Jackson and 11 by Marshel Martin. #3 Bellarmine 64, #12 Riordan 62: Jake Wojcik (23 points) tipped in a bucket at the buzzer giving the Bells (14-2, 6-0 West Catholic Athletic League) the victory in a game that featured 13 lead changes and eight ties. Kiran Cruse added 13 points and Kendall Stubblefield had 10 points and 12 rebounds for the winners. Je’Lani Clark had 18 points and De’Sean Johnson added 15 points and eight rebounds for host Riordan (11-5, 2-4). #5 Palo Alto 77, Los Gatos 68: Paul Jackson’s three-point play off a tip-in at the end of regulation sent the game to overtime before two three throws by Max Dorward (21 points) with one second left forced a second overtime, which was dominated by the visiting Vikings (14-2, 4-0 Santa Clara Valley Athletic League). Jared Wulbrun added 14 points and Bryant Jefferson 13 for the winners. Dylan Belquist (21 points) and Alex Braken-Guelke (17 points) led Los Gatos (12-5, 3-2). This was a rematch of last year’s Central Coast Section D1 final, a 66-63 Palo Alto win on a buzzerbeater. #9 St. Francis 63, #11 St. Ignatius 56: Cincinnati-bound Logan Johnson had 18 points and 12 rebounds and Roy Yuan added 17 as the host Lancers (14-2, 6-0 WCAL) held off the Wildcats (11-5, 4-2). Darrion Trammell scored 21 points, including 18 in the second half, and had eight rebounds for St. Ignatius. Oscar Pedraza added 13 points for the winners, who also got 15 rebounds from Anthony Landphere. Mitty 62, #13 Serra 57: Riley Grigsby scored five of his team’s 10 points in the second overtime and finished with 20 points to lead the Monarchs (4-12, 2-4 WCAL) past the host Padres (9-7, 1-5), who got 17 points from Henry James — all after halftime. James hit four threepointers in the third quarter. Serra scored late both in regulation and the first overtime before Mitty missed chances at the buzzer. In the second OT, the Monarchs took control, starting with a layup by Hekili Jordan. Devan Sapp had 12 points, Charles Meng 11 and Joseph Vaughn 10 for Mitty and Parker McDonald and Colin McCarthy contributed 15 and 10 points, respectively, for Serra. Valley Christian 74, #18 Sacred Heart Cathedral 64: Cameron Fini scored 21 of 28 points in the second half as the host Warriors (10-6, 1-5 WCAL) used a 27-point fourth quarter to beat the Irish (11-5, 2-4). Bryce Monroe scored 25 points and Gary Hudson added 16 for Sacred Heart Cathedral. College Park-Pleasanton Hill 62, Campolindo-Moraga 55: Zyon Pullin scored 14 points and Danny La Fortune added 13 as the visiting Falcons (14-3, 1-1 DAL Foothill) beat the Cougars (13-5, 1-1).
