VISUAL Appeal

-

While the promise of beautiful landscape with world-class wineries and a charming small-town that has become a foodie mecca beckons travelers from near and far, Healdsburg has also become a magnet for art enthusiasts, artists and collectors. Witness the offering of 24 galleries and working studios dotting the perimeter of its famous downtown plaza. Within a few blocks, there exists a true visual delight for those interested in adding to their collections, or simply to enjoy the work of talented local and internationally acclaimed artists. Erickson Fine Art Gallery, located in an historical Palladio style building just off the plaza, has a stunning three stories of art, entered through a gorgeous sculpture garden, showcasing contemporary paintings, sculpture and mixed-media. Started in San Francisco in 1993 by visionary, Sandy Erickson, Sandy moved her gallery to Healdsburg and, along with co-owner, Danielle Elins, has amassed a treasure trove of work with an emphasis on Northern California artists. Hammerfriar, a gallery dedicated to exhibiting contemporary art “with a vision”, it represents both established and emerging artists. The gallery is currently featuring 428 Collective, with recent work by this group of 11 Sonoma County artists, until Jan. 31. Another don’t-miss gallery is Paul Mahder Gallery. Located a block from the plaza, this stunning 10,000 square foot space housed in an iconic double Quonset with 30’ ceilings, is the largest gallery north of Los Angeles. It serves as both a “mini-museum” of premiere exhibits as well as an important community-based cultural event space. Healdsburg is also home to its own Center for the Arts, a non-profit dedicated to creating, inspiring and promoting arts through community education programs, events and exhibitions. Healdsburg Center for the Arts hosts educational classes and hands-on workshops for aspiring artists of all ages and talent levels. Visiting guests may have come for the food and wine, but leave with a piece of artwork (along with good memories)!
