Mary Frances Fleming

Mary Frances Fleming, age 93, passed away peacefully on January 16, 2018 in Oceanside California from pneumonia. Mary was born February 10, 1924 in Clinton Iowa. She served in the United States Navy from 1944 to 1949 as a First Class Petty Officer, working as a Pharmacist Mate and technician in Obstetrics and Surgery where she met her late husband Ensign Richard O’Halloran Fleming. She is survived by daughters and Sons in law, Maureen and John Mullins, Kay and Guy Smith, Janet and Michael Lynch, loving granddaugh­ter Ashlee Mary Smith and beloved long time companion, Preston Blackburn Griffing as well as nephew and nieces Michael Glasscock, Patty Adams and Georgia Campbell. She is preceded in death by her sister Henrietta Glasscock, brother in law Monsignor Vincent Fleming and sister in law Kathleen Fleming. Mary loved the Navy and was proud of her military service. Prior to raising her family in the Bay Area, she worked as an executive secretary for Rexall Drug Co. She also worked for the Red Cross as an Aquatics Specialist and helped establish the tiny tots swim program. Mary was a remarkable woman who was adored and loved by all. She enjoyed music and sang for the U.S. Navy in their ‘‘Singing Platoon”. She had a passion for Starbucks and ice cream and loved to travel. The family would like to acknowledg­e her devoted and beloved caregivers, Joy Siaga and Jeannie Borman. There will be a mass celebrated on Jan 26 at 1:00 at Our Lady of Angels Catholic Church, 1721 Hillside Dr., Burlingame, CA. Burial to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Colma, CA.
