Lu passed away surrounded by her loving family after a brief illness on Monday, January 15, 2018 at the age of 95. The second of ten children raised by Charles Arthur Orten and Cora Ann Haller, she was born on the farm near Atwood, Kansas.

Lu graduated from high school at the age of 14 and later worked for the US Health Department in Kansas City and Washington, DC. She met and married Donald F. Krueger and moved to Belmont in 1948.

Lu and Don raised 5 children and she lived family life to the fullest, volunteering in every aspect of family, church, school and community life. With Don she was a founding member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary parish and a very active part of the parish for 70 years.

After raising her family, Lu had a 15 year career as accountant for the Sequoia Adult School and served for many years as Board Member and President of the school employeescredit union. In retirement, Don and Lu enjoyed extensive travels.

In her later years she enjoyed volunteering at Twin Pines Senior Center, playing Bingo, and organizing Reno trips. She was a tax aid for the elderly for over 20 years.

Lu was predeceased by Don, her husband of 52 years (1998), their son Jim (1984) and infant daughter (1962). She will be sorely missed by her children and the in-laws who held a very special place in her heart: Donna (Skip Phair), David(Melanie), Bill (Debie) and Karen (George Roque). Lu was Gramma to 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Her extensive family includes 3 surviving sisters and countless nieces and nephews. Lu’s love lives on in her Kids, her Grandsand her Greats. She was a wonderful example to us all.

Friends are invited to celebrate Lu’s extraordinary life on Monday, January 22 at the Church of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in Belmont. A rosary at 10:30 will be followed by her funeral mass at 11:00 with a reception following at the adjacent St. Michael’s Hall.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Lu’s memory to IHM Church or another cause close to your heart.
