Brooks Scott Horace, age 69, passed away peacefully on January 7, 2018 at Cal Pacific Medical Center from complications of cancer. Brooks was born in Hollywood, CA. on November 1, 1948 to Charles Clay Horace and the late Jean (Fox) Horace, and grew up in Bakersfield, CA. At East Bakersfield High, he was active in student body leadership, swim dive team, football and was a Valley champion wrestler. In Summer he worked in the nearby oil fields. He fondly recalled the best of times at the family’s vacation home in Sun Valley, Idaho and particularly enjoyed teeing off at dawn and being the “first on the mountain” during ski season. Brooks attended the University of Southern California where he earned his M.B.A., MS in Education, BA in Anthropology and BS in Biology and Science. He was a member of the Delta Tau Delta fraternity Delta Pi Chapter, Beta Gamma Sigma and rowed on the USC varsity crew team. Upon graduation, Brooks worked for United California Bank in Los Angeles then moved to San Francisco to join Salomon Brothers. He resided in Marin County after he married his wife Carol. He continued at Drexel Burnham, Smith Barney, Everen Securities, A.G. Edwards and was most recently with Sutter Securities for the past eleven years. Brooks was happiest when outdoors, an avid golfer, snow skier and river rafter. He was a member of the Olympic Club and Bay Club for 25 plus years. His close friends knew him as “Brooksy”. He will be remembered for his loquacious fun-loving boyish charm, his generous heart, unique sense of humor, infectious laugh and his creative stories. He had the ability to light up the room and his shining light will be greatly missed.

Brooks is survived by Carol Horace, his father Charles Horace, brother Gary Horace and wife Laura, sister Viki Williams and husband Jeff; nieces Michelle, Lisa; nephews Gary, Michael; grandniece Madison and grandnephew Trent. He is preceded in death by his mother Jean Horace and dear friends Steve Luttrell and Jeffrey Filter. The family wishes to express a special appreciation to Ron Parker, Phil Fonfara, John Ott, and Ed Ripley, who have been earth angels and loyal friends supporting Brooks through the ups and downs and recent illness. A life celebration for Brooks will be planned for March or April. The date, place and time to be announced. Please join us to celebrate Brooks’ life, tell a story, laugh and share your memories.
