On TV

Todd Glass will try to “Act Happy” in his standup special of that name available for streaming today on Netflix. Ann Curry hosts the PBS special “We’ll Meet Again: Children of World War II” at 8 p.m. on KQED. The special focuses on people who were separated from family members and loved ones during World War II and their dramatic reunions. A Japanese American woman who was sent to an internment camp searches for a friend from childhood. A Jewish survivor looks for the child of the couple who befriended him. “Bizarre Foods America” digs in for its 11th season at 9 p.m. on the Travel Channel. Velocity ’s“Inside West Coast Customs” has a local angle for its 9 p.m. show today, giving viewers a peek inside Green Day’s bookmobile tour bus. Catch of the day is the third season of the bizarre and wonderful comedy “Baskets” at 10 p.m. on FX. It’s a show about a rodeo clown (Zach Galifianakis), costarring Louie Anderson, who won an Emmy playing the character’s mom. I started to watch WGN’s new series “Bellevue” and was initially interested in it because it was so funny. Trouble is, it’s a drama. But it is so ridiculously overplotted, it was unintentionally very funny. I made it through a second episode and went on to the third. But there comes a time when laughing at how bad something is loses its appeal, and then you’re stuck just watching a really bad show. Anna Paquin plays a rogue cop and single mom in a small Canadian town (the show is a Canadian Broadcasting Corporation effort). The whole town lives for hockey and the high school hockey team, whose star player, Jesse Sweetland (Sadie O’Neill), is going through gender identity issues. There’s a murder, there’s a strange figure in the woods who leaves cryptic clues in a mailbox nailed to a tree, Paquin’s daughter holds a seance and cuts herself to obtain the blood necessary to contact the other side. The hockey coach, a local priest and for all I know, Woodsy Owl are suspects at one time or another. I didn’t see enough of it to determine whether it becomes the greatest Canadian export since Michael J. Fox, but it starts tonight at 10 if you want to find out. No coincidence, I’m sure, but the new season of “Drunk History” uncorks at 10 p.m. on Comedy Central, followed by the secondseason launch of “Another Period” at 10:30. Season two of “Hate Thy Neighbor” premieres on Viceland at 10 p.m.

Also at 10, the second season of BET ’s“The Quad,” a drama set in a fictional Atlanta college starring Anika Noni Rose.

Jason Jones stars in the comedy“The Detour,” which he created with his wife, Samantha Bee, and whose second season launches at 10:30 p.m. on TBS.

Acorn TV, which has a long history of providing British TV shows, as well as shows from Australia, New Zealand and elsewhere, to American audiences, is getting into the original content game. The subscription service announced its first series commission, the second season of “Agatha Raisin,” a mystery series starring Ashley Jensen, currently seen in the show “Love, Lies and Records.” Acorn decided to take on the second season of “Raisin” after the original producer opted out. The show’s creators, Barry Ryan and David Walton, will continue to co-produce the series. The second season begins production in April for a late 2018 airing.
