Carter Mahaney’s bank shot with two seconds left lifted host Campolindo-Moraga to a thrilling, 100-98 double-overtime victory over Clayton Valley-Concord on Tuesday night, handing the No. 7 Ugly Eagles their first loss of the season.

Mahaney’s frenzied dash downcourt came after Clayton Valley’s Garrett Pascoe made two free throws to tie the game. Pascoe scored a gamehigh 49 points on a parade of three-point shots and pull-up jumpers.

His half-court heave at the buzzer missed but likely wouldn’t have counted, anyway.

The unranked Cougars, after squandering an 18-point lead to start the fourth quarter and a six-point advantage in the first overtime, rallied after falling behind by four in the second OT. All five Campo starters scored in double figures, led by Mahaney with 25 points and 11 rebounds and Will Cummins with 24 points.

Pascoe scored 21 of his 49 after the third quarter to nearly rescue Clayton Valley. Campolindo had raced ahead early, taking a 16-point lead after the first quarter and later stretching it to 20. The Cougars were up 74-56 entering the fourth, before Pascoe and the Ugly Eagles leaped to life.

“We knew they were going to make a run at some point,” Campolindo head coach Steven Dyer said. “I obviously was hoping we could close it out in the fourth quarter. Pascoe is an elite player. We threw a bunch of guys at him, but he went on a tear in the fourth.

“It was good for us to be mentally strong in the second overtime, when we probably should have won in regulation or the first overtime.”

David Ahazie had 15 points for the Cougars. John Torchio added 14 and 12 rebounds and Trevin Kroichick scored 12. Campolindo improved to 14-5 overall and 2-1 in the Diablo Athletic League-Foothill division.

Zach Martinez had 14 points for Clayton Valley, which fell to 18-1 overall and 2-1 in league.
