Las Lomas tops visiting Campolindo

The Las Lomas-Walnut Creek boys basketball team had lost two of its past three, including a 21-point loss to Clayton Valley-Concord.

Campolindo-Moraga was coming off a 100-98 win over Clayton Valley.

Past results meant nothing Friday as Las Lomas posted a decisive 78-56 win over visiting Campolindo.

Las Lomas (17-2, 3-1 Diablo Athletic League) got 19 points from Nate Robinson and 18 from Devin Payne. The 10thranked Knights made 20 of 21 free throws.

Campolindo (14-4, 2-2) got 16 points from Will Cummins.

#1 Salesian-Richmond 62, St. Mary’s-Berkeley 33: James Akinjo scored 20 points, Te’Jon Sawyer added 15 and Josh Jefferson and JoVon McClanahan contribute­d 10 each for the visiting Pride (21-5, 5-0 TriCounty Athletic League-Rock), who trailed 13-2 after one quarter. Salesian found its range in the second quarter with an 18-3 run and outscored St. Mary’s 60-20 in the final three frames. Darius Jackson had 11 points for the Panthers (12-10, 1-4). Salesian has won 13 straight.

#3 Bellarmine 59, Sacred Heart Cathedral 58: Sophomore center Constantij­n Cole made four free throws down the stretch, including the two to put Bellarmine up for good with 55 seconds left, as the Bells (16-2, 8-0 West Catholic Athletic League) held off the Irish (11-7, 2-6), who got 16 points from Bryce Monroe and 12 from Emmett Neal. With 14 seconds left, SHC had the ball with a chance to win. But tough defense by Cole, filling in after starter Kendall Stubblefie­ld fouled out, forced a miss and Jake Wojcik grabbed the rebound. Bellarmine, which got 16 points from Wojcik and 13 from Connor Despie, committed seven turnovers in the second quarter in which SHC scored 27 points. “That was a recipe for disaster,” said Bellarmine coach Patrick Schneider.Kiran Kruse had 12 points and Stubblefie­ld 11 for Bellarmine. Amin Oglesby had 11 points and Gary Hudson 10 for SHC. #4 Menlo School-Atherton 61, Pinewood-Los Altos Hills 24: Thomas Brown had 22 points and seven rebounds to lead the visiting Knights (17-1, 8-0 West Bay Athletic League) to their 10th straight win. Menlo also got 10 points each from Cole Kastner and Joe Foley and 10 points and five steals from Riley Woodson. Serra 73, #8 St. Francis 61: The host Padres’ big three of Colin McCarthy (25 points), Parker McDonald (19) and Henry James (16) combined for all but 13 of their team’s points in a win over the Lancers (14-4, 6-2 WCAL). Logan Johnson led a spirited comeback with 34 points, St. Francis could not overcome a deficit that stretched to 22 in the third quarter against Serra (11-7, 3-5).

Mitty 66, #11 St. Ignatius 63: Sophomore Devan Sapp had 16 points and Riley Grigsby and Hekili Jordan added 14 apiece as visiting Mitty (6-12, 4-4 WCAL) won its fourth straight, this one over St. Ignatius (12-6, 5-3), which got 14 points apiece from Teddy Snyder and Darrion Trammell. The game seesawed in the first half before Mitty went up by six points. St. Ignatius, which got 11 points each from Brandon Beckman and Neal Begovich, took the lead by one midway through the fourth, but Grigsby found Sapp, who drilled a threepoint­er, and Mitty never trailed again. “The guys are just getting better and better, and we’re getting big plays from different spots every night,” Mitty coach Tim Kennedy said. “Winning at St. Ignatius is really big. This was a good one.”

Valley Christian 65, Riordan 58: Alton Julian scored 16 points and Justin Kidd added 14 as Valley Christian (11-7, 2-6 WCAL) beat visiting Riordan (11-7, 2-6), which got 14 points from Anthony Aropeza and 10 from Watidaishe Mukukula. Cameron Fini added 14 points off the bench for Valley Christian, which outscored Riordan 21-12 in the fourth quarter.
