Sens prevail in shootout

Mike Hoffman was the only shooter among 12 players to score in the shootout as the Ottawa Senators beat the host Philadelph­ia Flyers 4-3 on Saturday.

The Senators looked like they had the game won in regulation, but Nolan Patrick tied the contest with 2.6 seconds left in the third period to force overtime.

After six Flyers shooters and five Senators missed in the shootout, Hoffman connected with a pretty move that beat Michal Neuvirth and sent Ottawa to consecutiv­e victories for the first time since Jan. 5-6.

“There are moves that work,” Hoffman said. “Some don’t. If you don’t try them, you never know.”

Islanders 4, Blue Jackets 3: Jaroslav Halak stopped 46 shots, including 25 in the opening period, as host New York beat Columbus.

Blues 1, Sabres 0: Carter Hutton stopped 27 shots, and Carl Gunnarsson banked in a shot off the crossbar with 5:41 left for visiting St. Louis.

Kings 6, Coyotes 0: Darcy Kuemper stopped 26 shots for his third shutout of the season as host Los Angeles rebounded from a 5-0 loss to Nashville two nights earlier and won for the third time in four games.

Canadiens 5, Ducks 2: Defenseman Jeff Petry scored two goals as host Montreal ended a three-game losing streak. Canadiens forward Jonathan Drouin left the game in the second period after being hit in the ribs by a slap shot.

Stars 6, Wild 1: Jamie Benn had a goal and an assist during a four-goal second period and Kari Lehtonen stopped 30 shots to win his fourth straight decision for host Dallas. Jets 3, Avalanche 0: Patrik Laine scored his team-leading 24th goal and Connor Hellebuyck stopped 25 shots for his fifth shutout of the season for host Winnipeg. Jets forward Matt Hendricks left with an upper-body injury in the opening period

Bruins 4, Maple Leafs 1: David Pastrnak and Torey Krug each scored on a power play in the second period for host Boston, which collected at least one point for the 20th time in 21 games.

Panthers 3, Red Wings 2: Jonathan Huberdeau scored with 7.7 seconds left in the third period to give host Florida the victory. Danny DeKeyser scored both goals for Detroit.

Devils 3, Penguins 1: Travis Zajac scored two goals and set up another for host New Jersey, which limited Pittsburgh to a season-low 16 shots.

Predators 5, Rangers 2: Kevin Fiala scored twice as host Nashville beat New York, which has lost five of its past six games. Rangers players Marc Staal and Jimmy Vesey went to the locker room for evaluation­s after being checked hard in a 24-second span in the second period.

Lightning 4, Canucks 2: Chris Kunitz and Victor Hedman scored first-period goals to start visiting Tampa Bay on its way to its fifth victory in six games.

Flames 4, Blackhawks 3: Sean Monahan scored 59 seconds into overtime as host Calgary ended a six-game losing streak.

Briefly: The Avalanche activated goalie Semyon Varlamov from injured reserve. He missed 10 games with a lower-body injury . ... Stars goalie Ben Bishop was scratched from his scheduled start after being hit in the face by a puck while sitting on the bench during Thursday’s game at Arizona . ... Capitals forward T.J. Oshie was fined $5,000 for cross-checking Penguins defenseman Kris Letang in the neck during a game Friday.
