Stanford women up 7 spots to No. 17

The Stanford women made the largest jump of any team in the Associated Press women’s basketball poll Monday, moving seven spots to No. 17.

The Cardinal beat Oregon 78-65 on Sunday in Eugene, causing the Ducks to drop three spots to No. 9.

Cal dropped out of the Top 25. Previously ranked No. 25, the Bears were swept by the Oregon schools.

UConn (22-0) was still the unanimous No. 1 by the 32member national media panel. The Huskies routed No. 7 South Carolina on Thursday then blew out Cincinnati on Sunday.

The first five teams were unchanged in the poll with Mississipp­i State, Baylor, Louisville and Notre Dame following UConn.

Texas moved up two spots to sixth while UCLA, Oregon and Maryland round out the first 10 teams in the poll. N.C. The Bulldogs ended an 11-game losing streak to the Gamecocks (18-5, 7-3) that included a defeat in the national championsh­ip game last season. #3 Baylor 74, Oklahoma 65: In Waco, Texas, Lauren Cox scored a career-high 24 points and the Bears (22-1, 12-0 Big 12) won their 19th straight game. Baylor never trailed, though Oklahoma (12-12, 7-6) did tie the game at 60 with about 5½ minutes left before Baylor made 8 of 10 free throws in the final 96 seconds. #6 Texas 73, West Virginia 55: Jatarie White had 18 points and 10 rebounds for her second doubledoub­le of the season to lead visiting Texas (19-4, 10-2 Big 12). Naomi Davenport led the Mountainee­rs (17-7, 5-7) with 14 points. All quiet at top of men’s poll: Villanova, Virginia and Purdue are making themselves comfortabl­e atop the AP Top 25.

The Wildcats are ranked No. 1 in the latest men’s poll, followed by the second-ranked Cavaliers and the third-ranked Boilermake­rs. It marked the fourth straight week with the trio sitting 1-2-3 in the poll as they continue extended winning streaks while avoiding the upsets that hit national powers Duke, Kansas, Arizona and Kentucky last weekend.

Villanova (22-1, 9-1 Big East) has won nine straight and hasn’t lost in 2018.

Virginia (22-1, 11-0 ACC) has won 14 straight games and leads the rest of the traditionr­ich league by at least three games in the loss column.

Then there’s Purdue (23-2, 12-0 Big Ten), which has the nation’s longest winning streak at 19 games.

“If there is a better team inside and out in the country, I haven’t seen them yet,” Rutgers coach Steve Pikiell said after his team’s Saturday loss to the Boilermake­rs. #19 West Virginia 75, #17 Oklahoma 73: Lamont West scored 17 points, and the visiting Mountainee­rs (18-6, 7-4 Big 12) survived a 32-point night from Oklahoma’s Trae Young. Young, the freshman who leads the nation in scoring and assists, had just one assist.
