Frazier leaving Yankees for Mets

Former Yankees third baseman Todd Frazier is switching sides and staying close to home.

The free agent and New Jersey native is set to join the Mets and take over a spot that has been in flux since former All-Star David Wright was injured.

A person familiar with the deal said Monday night that Frazier and the Mets had agreed on a two-year contract for $17 million. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the deal was still pending a physical.

The Yankees got him in July

in a trade with the White Sox. Frazier hit a combined .213 with 27 home runs, 76 RBIs and a .344 on-base percentage. He set career highs with 40 homers and 98 RBIs for Chicago in 2016.

Frazier turns 32 on Monday. Colon to Texas: Bartolo Colon agreed to a minor-league contract with the Rangers, and the 44-year-old right-hander will attend big-league spring training.

Colon would get a $1.75 million, one-year contract if added to the 40-man roster.

He was 7-14 with a 6.48 ERA in 28 starts for Atlanta and Minnesota last season. He was released by the Braves in July, then signed with the Twins.

Colon has 240 victories in 20 seasons with 10 teams, including the A’s. In two seasons (2012-13) with Oakland, Colon went 28-15 with a 2.99 ERA. He won the 2005 AL Cy Young Award with the Angels. Briefly: World Series MVP George Springer and the Astros avoided salary arbitratio­n by agreeing to a $24 million, two-year contract . ... Marcus Thames was promoted to hitting coach by the Yankees, replacing Alan Cockrell on the staff of new manager Aaron Boone. Cockrell was the Giants’ first-round pick in 1984.
