A fresh set of emoji has been set up for release in the summer, featuring such things as a female superhero, a lobster, a softball, a pirate flag and a firecracker. Unicode said in a blog post that male and female emoji will have a wider range of hairstyles (redhaired, curly, white-haired and bald).
Co-founder Alexis Ohanian is stepping down from his daily duties at Reddit so he can concentrate on Initialized Capital, his venture capital firm. The Wall Street Journal reported that Ohanian will continue to sit on Reddit’s board. One factor influencing his decision, he told the Journal, was his marriage last year to tennis superstar Serena Williams and the birth of their daughter, Alexis Jr.
1 Google announced that Nest will no longer be a standalone Alphabet company and will work with Google’s hardware team. Ars Technica reported that Nest CEO Marwan Fawaz will report to Google Hardware Senior Vice President Rick Osterloh.
1 Vistaprint CEO Trynka Shineman said a gay couple who received pamphlets about temptation and sin instead of wedding programs were the victims of an order mix-up, not discrimination. The couple, who had sued, said in a statement released through Vistaprint that they have accepted the company’s apology. Vistaprint also has agreed to make donations to three organizations that support LGBTQ causes — including one in Australia, where the men live. 1 Taco Bell and KFC said they are expanding delivery nationwide in partnership with Grubhub. Yum Brands, which owns both restaurants, declined to say how many of the restaurants will offer delivery and when. Franchisees have to agree to sign on, and the service will be rolled out throughout the year.
1 And foam cups at Dunkin’ Donuts will soon be history, removing what the company estimates will be a billion of them each year from the waste stream. It’s phasing them out globally by 2020. McDonald’s said last month that it would use only recycled or other environmentally friendly materials for its soda cups, Happy Meal boxes and other packaging by 2025.
