San Mateo Craftsman with space to entertain

- By Jordan Guinn

Kim Nappi and her husband, Brian, adore the Craftsman at 15 Barroilhet Ave. in San Mateo. Their home for nearly eight years, it’s been their refuge and the backdrop for many family celebrations.

The couple points to the updated kitchen and spacious backyard as highlights of the home, which is now listed for $2.798 million, but their personal favorite is the covered front porch with windows dating back to the early 20th century.

“The front porch was a favorite spot of the house. We created a lot of beautiful memories out there,” Kim Nappi said. “I would enjoy coffee in the morning and and wine in the evening out there. You could say that porch is an all-day love affair.”

Built in 1912, the Craftsman home features a blend of period details and modern updates. Inlaid hardwood floors grace the foyer, and the living room includes a wood-burning fireplace. Pocket doors seal off the formal dining room, and floor-to-ceiling built-ins define the family room.

The kitchen, recently updated by the Nappis, offers Kitchen-Aid appliances, custom cabinets and a casual dining area. A wine refrigerator and dual ovens lend function to a space finished with bullnose quartz countertops and a farmhouse sink.

The home features more than 2,800 square feet of living space, and that doesn’t include storage spaces on the second floor and in the basement.

Located minutes from Burlingame Avenue, the home is close to Caltrain and Highway 101. A wealth of dining and shopping options are nearby.

Parking can be hard to come by in this part of San Mateo, Kim Nappi said, but 15 Barroilhet Ave. enjoys a long driveway that can accommodate a number of vehicles.

“There are three areas for entertaining in the backyard,” she said. “We’ve had dining for 10 at one end and seating for another 10 or so around the fire pit. Plus there is seating room on the deck.”
