The Cloververse expands
The set of films in the same cinematic universe as the J.J. Abrams-produced, Matt Reevesdirected, Drew Goddard-written “Cloverfield” (2008) has doubled in number, apparently.
Following the Damien Chazelleco-scripted “10 Cloverfield Lane” (2016), the upcoming space station thriller once known as “The God Particle” (possibly now “Cloverfield Station” due to wholesale script changes) turns out to belong in the same continuity.
The latter production has encountered some difficulties; its release date has changed several times. It’s now due April 20.
However, sources have told the Hollywood Reporter “God”/“Station” is possibly moving from Paramount to Netflix, probably without a theatrical release. That would be a surprise, considering its connection to Abrams’ franchise and its ace international cast (Daniel Brühl, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Chris O’Dowd, John Ortiz, David Oyelowo and Zhang Ziyi).
Meanwhile, a fourth film was recently confirmed by film sources: a paranormal World War II project that has been known so far as “Overlord.” It’s done filming and is due Oct. 26.
There had been speculation that this also-Abrams-produced sci-fi film was a stealth “Cloverfield” entry for some time. It’s co-written by Billy Ray, whose filmography includes “Captain Phillips,” “Volcano,” the first “Hunger Games” and “Shattered Glass.”
