Joan Whitener Morris

Joan Whitener Morris died peacefully on February 5, 2018 in Hillsborou­gh, California at the age of 88. Joan is survived by her children Daniel R. Morris (Denise Trani-Morris) of Hillsborou­gh, California and Kathryn McQueen of Visalia, California and grandchild­ren Kelsey F. Morris, Kevin McQueen, and Tessa McQueen. Joan is also survived by her brother James Whitener of Hemet, California and Anne Helm of Fresno, California. Joan is pre-deceased by her husband, Henry R. Morris, and son, Kenneth W. Morris.

Joan was born on February 22, 1929 in Caruthers, California to William and Rose Whitener. Joan graduated from Caruthers High School and attended the University of California at Berkeley where she obtained a degree in English and met Henry. R. Morris whom she married in 1948. Over a period of eight years, Joan and Henry welcomed three children into the family. While Henry worked at Pacific Telephone and Telegraph Company, Joan tended to the children, who remember her as a patient and loving mother.

Joan was very active in charitable organizati­ons including the Women’s Auxiliary to Stanford’s Children Hospital, the Salvation Army, and the Coyote Point Junior Museum. She worked countless volunteer hours at the Garden Café in Burlingame, California which donated all profits to the Children’s Hospital at Stanford Medical Center.

A private service will be held with family members with internment at Skylawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to Lucile Packard Foundation for Children’s Health, 400 Hamilton Avenue, Suite 340, Palo Alto, CA 94301
