Joanne (Moran) Rayner

September 29, 1940 - December 6, 2017

-

On December 6, 2017 Joanne (age 77) joined her beloved husband Robert “Bob” Rayner (d. 2011) in final rest. She passed peacefully following a brief illness, surrounded by cherished family and her favorite music.

Born in 1940 to Lillian (Silver) Clark and Francis “Frank” Moran, Joanne grew up in San Francisco. She attended Alamo Elementary and Colma Jr. High, and was confirmed into the Jewish faith at Congregation Sherith Israel. Joanne’s marriage to Bob in 1956 began a lifetime journey together. In 1963 they moved to Pacifica, where daughter Laura (b. 1967) was raised. Joanne volunteered at Fairmont Elementary, experience which led to her career at Serramonte then Jefferson High School. The couple moved to Foster City in 1995 and Joanne immersed herself in the community, even serving as a board member of the Winston Square Homeowners Association.

Joanne loved the simple pleasures of life. She followed stories of need, gave to many charities, and brought cookies to the police. Joanne was a dedicated mother and grandmother who doted on her family, patiently teaching and generously loving. She was a trusted friend and neighbor whose garage door was always open, and she enjoyed doing crossword puzzles there to keep in touch and say hello. She enjoyed dining with friends, weekend trips, and watching football. And she would drop anything to help a friend in need.

Joanne’s thoughtful gestures and kindness will be missed by all who knew her, especially daughter Laura Rayner, grandchildren Eddie Rayner and Rachel Olivares, great-grandson Anthony Cornejo, sister Carol Moran and brother Frank Clark, and the many other lives she touched.

The family is grateful to the team at Sutter Health and Mission Hospice who made her final days easier and more comfortable. Special thanks to Dr. Alexander and Dr. Shaughnessy for their compassionate care and guidance, Amy H. and Kerry in ICU for their handholding, and Monica for her smiles.

Friends and family may come to celebrate Joanne’s life at Winston Square Clubhouse (858 Cortez Lane, Foster City) at 11:30 am on Saturday, March 10. Donations to the Conservatory of Flowers in Golden Gate Park preferred so that future generations may enjoy the tranquility flowers brought to Joanne. May she rest in peace.
