Throughout the Hawaiian Islands, there are a handful of voyaging experience­s besides Holokino Hawaii on Oahu that don’t require you to be an experience­d wayfinder:

HAWAII

Captain Kiko Sailing Excursions: (808) 8953743; www.waakaulua.com. Sail out of Wailoa River Boat Ramp in Hilo on a three-hour sailing trip with Captain Kiko, where you’ll learn local history and culture, as well as help paddle the canoe when you’re not sailing. Tours are $125 per person (for four to six people) or a minimum of $500 per trip.

Eka Canoe Adventures: (808) 756-3335; www.ekacanoead­ventures.com. Take a sunset sail on Waa Kini Kini, a 40-foot sailing canoe, and kick back to enjoy the ride — or volunteer to paddle for a little while. Onehour sunset tour: $75 per adult and $65 per child.

Imiloa Astronomy Center of Hawaii:

(808) 932-8901; www.imiloahawa­ii.org. Learn the basics of reading the stars with interactiv­e exhibits, a planetariu­m show, and special Wayfinding Talks with expert navigators. Admission: $17.50 per adult; $9.50 per child ages 5-12; free for children under 5.

MAUI Maui Sailing Canoe Adventures: (808)

281-9301; www.mauisailin­gcanoe.com. This three-hour tour on Hina, a sailing canoe, includes opportunit­ies to paddle yourself, as well as take snorkel and swim breaks. Tours from Polo Beach in Wailea: $179 per adult, $129 per child ages 4-14.

KAUAI Island Sails Kauai:

Choose between a morning snorkel sail ($119 per adult, $75 per child), historic Hanalei Bay sail ($99 per adult, $60 per child), or romantic sunset sail ($119 per adult, $75 per child) on a 45-foot traditiona­l Hawaiian sailing canoe. All tours are 1½ hours long; sailing season is April to Oct. 1.
