Audi Q7

MSRP: $50,875 In this class, we expect ample room and comfort, but the Q7 adds agility, earning it a 2018 10Best award. The base engine is a 252-hp 2.0-liter turbo four; a 333-hp 3.0-liter supercharged V-6 is optional. Both engines pair with an eight-speed automatic and all-wheel drive; available four-wheel steering, adaptive dampers, and an air suspension help the Q7 remain composed. The high-quality interior features the latest in infotainment, including Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Porsche Cayenne

MSRP: $61,650 The Cayenne is a spicy-hot mix of luxury, off-road ability, and sports-car performance — just what you’d expect in a Porsche SUV. The base model has a 340-hp turbo V-6; the S makes 420 hp and the GTS makes 440 hp, both from a twin-turbo 3.6-liter V-6. There's also the S E-Hybrid. All have an eight-speed automatic and all-wheel drive. A leather-lined cabin and infotainment with navigation make it a comfortable road tripper. An all-new Cayenne debuts in summer 2018.

Honda CR-V

MSRP: $25,125 Versatility, competency, and reliability are the tenets on which the CR-V hangs its hat. Supportive seats and a firm but supple ride make it easy to live with. The interior is quiet, handsome, and roomy. The base engine is a 184-hp 2.4-liter four-cylinder, while a 190-hp turbo 1.5-liter four is optional. A CVT (one of the best around) and front-wheel drive are standard; all-wheel drive is optional. Automated emergency braking and other safety gear is standard on EX and above trims.

Mazda CX-5

MSRP: $25,125 Mazda blends sports-car know-how into every model, and the 10Best-winning CX-5 is no exception. Sharp steering and a poised chassis make it an enthusiast’s pick; the quiet interior imparts a feel of luxury. A 187-hp 2.5-liter inline-four with a six-speed automatic and front-wheel drive are standard; all-wheel drive is optional. The 7.0-inch touchscreen is easy to use, and the optional safety tech — adaptive cruise, automated emergency braking, and more — make the CX-5 a great all-rounder.
