Florence Simons Husari, 93, of Mill Valley, California, passed away on January 21, 2018 in the Redwoods: A Community of Seniors with her daughters, Susan and Nancy Husari, by her side. Florence was born Florence Simons on April 11, 1924 in Salem, Utah. Both of her parents had passed away by 1933. She was the youngest of seven siblings. She was raised by her brother, Keith, and took on many adult responsibilities after their parents’ death. That challenge molded her character and contributed to the strength and adaptability that so many people admired in her. Florence received her teaching credential from Brigham Young University in 1946. Then, she moved to San Francisco, where she met Andrew Husari, whom she married in 1948. They had two daughters, and for several years, Florence worked as a secretary and raised her children. In 1965, she began teaching for the San Francisco Unified School District. She and Andrew divorced in 1970. Florence retired from teaching in 1984. She touched many students’ lives throughout her teaching career and touched many other lives as a generous hostess and friend. After retirement, she hiked and traveled extensively, and she was an accomplished potter. In 2005, she began having health problems, so she moved to the Redwoods in 2006. There, she continued to be a social butterfly for as long as she was able. Florence is survived by her daughters, Susan Jean (Elizabeth Lewis) and Nancy Ann, her grandson Edward Andrew Molnar, and her ex son-in-law, George Molnar, as well as many other close friends and family. She is preceded in death by her parents, all of her siblings, her niece, Jean Larsen, and her companion, Ken Train. We plan to have a celebration of her life on April 14, 2018 at 2PM at the Redwoods. Donations in her honor can be made to the Redwoods Scholarship Fund or the Sierra Club. Special thanks to the staff at the Redwoods, Hospice by the Bay, Vickie Vail, Susan Leonard, and the Vigilers of the Redwoods.

“Behind every great woman is another great woman.” Florence was a biological mother to two women and a substitute mother to many others.
