The heart of a warrior with a destiny in the sky. A native San Franciscan born to Emilio Mendoza and Joann Rimando, he proudly served in the U.S. Army and National Guard for more than 20 years, including the 11th Airborne Division. He fought in the Korean War, earning the Combat Infantryman Badge at the age of 16 with the 40th Infantry Division; and he’s profiled in the book “America’s Youngest Warriors” as a result of his service. He also earned his high school diploma after passing the GED exams in Pusan, Korea.

After retiring from the military in 1978, he worked for Pacific Telephone and General Telcom - helping install and repair phones for many Bay Area businesses and organizations; including the San Francisco 49ers and Golden State Warriors. After retirement from a career in telecommunications, his love of airplanes led him to employment with SkyWest Airlines and adventures at San Francisco International Airport and beyond. He pursued his passion for parachute jumping into his 50s, joining the militaries from several nations in friendly jumps over Europe, Central America and Israel. He later visited South Africa as an admirer of Zulu warriors and the wildlife across the region.

He lived a life that truly embraced the Airborne slogan, “All the way,” and wanted everyone to do their best. A charismatic, humorous and generous man who fully accepted others, he was quick with a witty reply and a helping hand. His enthusiasm for air shows, collectibles and flea markets reflected his appreciation for history and the stories they contain. His warm and welcoming smile will be missed, but never forgotten and always celebrated. At this moment, he would likely give a knowing grin and quip: “I’ve got my eye on you.” We’re looking up. We’ve got our eyes on you too.

Jesus is survived by a loving family, including wife Cheryl Teresa (Schermann) in Daly City, brother Clem in San Diego, sister Shirley in Arizona and his four children: Nick in New York, Rick (Pam) in New Jersey, Mike (Petra) in Germany, and Anita (Tui) Nua in American Samoa; plus seven grandchildren (Anneliese & Alexandra; Lina, Julie & Joey; Joel & Keanu), four great grandchildren (Angelo, Nevaeh & Gabriel; and Ethan), many nieces, nephews and cousins; plus friends gained through decades of valued experiences, travels, the workplace and the sky.

He reunites with his twin brother Joseph (2002), his brother Eugene (1997), and cherished daughter Britta Revels Alexander (2011).
