Remodeled full-floor condo on Telegraph Hill has restored hardwood floors

- By Jordan Guinn

Just after sunrise, Jennifer Johnson will grab some coffee and sit on her roof, taking in the bay views. The ritual at 1919 Grant Ave. on Telegraph Hill centers her and sets the tone for the day ahead.

“It’s such a peaceful time of day to collect my thoughts and look out onto the water,” she said.

Johnson has lived in the full-floor condo since early in 2015. A resident of San Francisco for more than 25 years, Johnson said she jumped at the opportunity to own a place on Telegraph Hill.

Now her job has her mov-

ing to the East Coast, and she’s putting the two-bedroom residence on the market for $1.695 million.

Built shortly after the 1906 earthquake, the two-unit building exudes charm, she said.

“It had the original floors, doors and hardware, but some of the features — like the windows — hadn’t been updated since 1907,” Johnson said.

She steered a significant remodeling project at the home shortly after moving in. The kitchen was updated, the windows were replaced, floors were restored and recessed lighting was installed throughout the residence.

Johnson also reconfigured the front parlor into a master bedroom while adding an en suite bathroom and custom closets. She also updated the deeded bonus room downstairs off the shared garden.

There’s potential for additional outdoor space. The roof where Johnson spends her mornings could easily accommodate a deck. If built, the deck would frame views of the bay, the skyline and the Golden Gate Bridge.
