A sampling of what to see
The Cinequest Film & VR Festival, Silicon Valley’s annual bash to celebrate cinema, has plenty to offer in its lineup, whether it’s a star-studded American movie, a quirky foreign film, a bold documentary or a virtual reality experience.
During the event, there will be 74 world and 55 U.S. premieres, representing work from 44 countries. The lineup of 229 films will feature the work of 90 women directors. Many of the films will get multiple showings, so there are numerous opportunities to take in as many films as possible.
Here is a list of 10 things worth putting on your calendar: Krystal: The opening night film, about a sheltered Southern boy whose life changes when he falls for a troubled older woman, has plenty of quirks, laughs and profound moments. Director William H. Macy keeps things at a brisk pace, and he is part of an impressive ensemble cast that includes Nick Robinson, Rosario Dawson, Kathy Bates, Felicity Huffman, Grant Gustin, William Fichtner, and the rapper T.I. 7:15 p.m. Feb. 27, California Theatre.
