Lightning win, lose Kucherov to injury

Brayden Point scored the deciding goal in a shootout for the second consecutiv­e game, lifting host Tampa Bay, the Atlantic Division leader, past second-place Toronto 4-3 on Monday night.

Tyler Johnson, Chris Kunitz and Adam Erne scored in regulation for the NHL-leading Lightning, who played most of the game without Nikita Kucherov after the league’s top scorer was injured.

James van Riemsdyk, Mitch Marner and Tyler Bozak had the goals for Toronto, which played without injured Auston Matthews.

Kucherov left with 5:41 left in the first and did not return. The team announced Kucherov sustained an undisclose­d upper-body injury. The two-time All-Star has 82 points in 63 games. Kings 3, Golden Knights 2: Dustin Brown scored on a power play in overtime to lift Los Angeles at home. Brown assisted on Jeff Carter’s powerplay goal in the third period, and Anze Kopitar had a goal and an assist for the Kings as they came back from down 2-0 in the third period. Erik Haula and Reilly Smith scored for Vegas. Flyers 1, Canadiens 0: Sean Couturier scored in the sixth round of the shootout, and visiting Philadelph­ia beat Montreal for its season-best sixth straight victory. Petr Mrazek, making his third straight start for the Flyers, stopped 28 shots in his fourth shutout this season. Mrazek is 3-0-0 since being acquired from Detroit on Feb. 19. Philadelph­ia moved into the top spot in the Metropolit­an Division over Washington. The Flyers have earned points in 12 straight games (10-0-2). Backup goalie Charlie Lindgren made 33 saves for Montreal, which has lost eight of nine. Blue Jackets 5, Capitals 1: Columbus scored four times in the opening period at home. One goal in that flurry came from Mark Letestu, who was acquired Jones and in Cam a trade Atkinson Sunday. each Seth had a goal and two assists for the Blue Jackets. Artemi Panarin had a goal and an assist, and Sonny Milano — who missed 18 games with an injury — also scored, his first since Dec. 29. Alex Ovechkin got his league-leading 39th goal for Washington. Avalanche 3, Canucks 1: Nathan MacKinnon had two goals and an assist and Mikko Rantanen added a goal and an assist for host Colorado. Semyon Varlamov made 31 saves and came within 1:16 of his third shutout this season. Colorado won for the 11th time in 12 home games and moved two points back of idle Calgary for the second wild-card spot in the West.
