Helen D. Galloway passed away peacefully in her Millbrae home on February 17th, at the age of 96.

Helen was born and raised in Superior, Wisconsin. After attending the University of Wisconsin, Helen moved to Washington, DC, and worked for the FBI as a stenographer during WWII. It was there that she met FBI Special Agent George Galloway. They married in Washington, DC in 1944. Shortly thereafter, due to concerns about the U.S.West Coast during WWII, George was assigned to the Los Angeles office, and thereafter the Portland bureau. While residing in Portland, their first child, Patrick Galloway was born.

After the war, they were assigned to the San Francisco FBI office, and they welcomed their second child, Candace Galloway. The family ultimately settled in Millbrae. As Pat and Candy were being raised, in their teenage years, along came Michael Galloway. The long span of child rearing ensured that Helen remained youthful, active, and extremely involved in her children’s lives and community activities for many years.

She made lasting friendships through their FBI associations, as well as in her multiple volunteer and charitable activities. Helen was an active member of St. Dunstan parish, Serra High School parent group, the Stanford Convalescent Home, and served as a volunteer with the MillsPeninsula Hospital Auxiliary for 37 years.

As a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Helen was treasured for her warm, loving and welcoming ways. Grandma Galloway particularly enjoyed participating in the frequent four generation gatherings. Her faith, and her devotion to her husband, family, and friends, served as a true testament to all she valued in life.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents, James Patrick and Olive Deegan and her brother James P. Deegan Jr. She is survived by her loving husband of 74 years, George P Galloway, and their three children; G.Patrick Galloway, Candace Reed, Michael Galloway, and their spouses. She is also survived by her eight grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren.

The family will celebrate a funeral Mass at St. Dunstan Catholic Church in Millbrae on Wednesday, March 14th at 11 AM. A celebration of Helen’s life will take place at a later date.
