Georgia S. Heald

March 26, 1925 - January 26, 2018

Georgia Sayre Heald, 92, a long-time resident of Millbrae and most recently of Salinas, died of natural causes, January 26, 2018. During her final weeks of life, she exhibited exceptional physical strength and spiritual grace. All who knew her were drawn by her pleasant manner, her subtle sense of humor and her unsparing devotion to her family.

Georgia was the only child born to George and Blanche Sayre (nee Doze) on March 26, 1925, in Kingsburg California. Following the Great Depression, Georgia moved with her mother to San Francisco where she attended grade school and graduated from Lowell High School, in 1943.

While attending nursing school at Saint Francis Hospital in San Francisco, Georgia met Dr. John Harvey Heald, Sr. They married January 3, 1948. Together for 45 years, they raised four children and spent their days providing for their family and each other. Georgia was a dedicated homemaker, ensuring that her four boys received all the care and love that only a mother can provide. She was an avid reader of novels and historical literature who enjoyed traveling with her husband and children. Georgia had a life-long affinity for the Pacific Ocean and the natural beauty of the Hawaiian Islands, where she vacationed frequently with her husband and family. She also loved cruising to distant ports of call including Panama, Costa Rica, Jamaica, the Mexican Riviera and her preferred destination Alaska.

Georgia is survived by her sons John, Jr (Dee Ann Sieler) of Lake Oswego, OR, William (Laurie Burnham) and Andrew (Betty Johnson) of Salinas, CA, Ellen Heald of Mi-Wuk Village, CA, grandson Jonathan (Niki Lopez) and great-grandson Dominic of Burlingame, CA. Georgia’s husband John, Sr. and son James preceded her in death.

Private services will be held at Golden Gate National Cemetery in San Bruno, California. In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation may be made to: St. Jude Children’s Hospital, ASPCA, or the charity of your choice.
