Sandra Jean (Sconiers) Grijalva

Born in Ventura, California on February 9, 1944 and passed in San Francisco on February 5, 2018.

Graduate of Santa Barbara High School, 1961 and University of California at Santa Barbara, 1965, Sandra majored in Sociology with minors in Anthropolo­gy and Art History. Sandra began her career in Social Work with the San Francisco Department of Social Services in 1968, in the AFDC unit with special services for teenage unwed mothers, transferri­ng to the Appeals Unit and finally Adult Services. In 1977, she moved to the Developmen­tal Disabiliti­es Department where she worked until 1982. She continued her work with the developmen­tally disabled at the ARC in San Francisco where she retired from her position as a Director in 2010.

Sandra returned to school and obtained a Masters in Gerontolog­y from San Francisco State University. She was invited to speak at several national and internatio­nal Gerontolog­y Conference­s. She was a fervent traveler, ardent animal lover and connoisseu­r of fine dining with an internatio­nal bent.

Sandra is survived by her nephews, Daniel and Randall Molinari; cousins, Lloyd Sconiers, Kathy Elizalde, and Linda Nelson; her close friends Bob and Gemsy Kennedy (Sandra’s Kidney donor); and her two remaining beloved cats, Thelma and Louise.

Sandra Will be interned at Oak Hill Cemetery, Solvang near her parents, Gordon and Effie Sconiers On Monday, March 12 at Noon. A Celebratio­n of Life memorial will be held in her home in San Francisco on Saturday, March 24 at Noon. Donations may be made to the Polycystic Kidney Disease Founation, www. pkd.org/donate.
