Seahawks trade Bennett to Eagles

-

The Super Bowl champion Eagles bolstered their formidable pass rush with another top-level defensive lineman.

Philadelphia acquired threetime Pro Bowl defensive end Michael Bennett from the Seahawks on Wednesday, three people familiar with the trade told the Associated Press. The deal won’t be officially announced until the NFL’s league year opens Wednesday.

Seattle gets wide receiver Marcus Johnson and a fifth-round pick. Philadelphia also receives a seventh-round pick. Johnson has five catches for 45 yards in 10 games.

Bennett had 8½ sacks last season and 54 in his nine-year career. Bennett, 32, has three years remaining on his contract, with a base salary of $1.65 million in 2018. That number jumps to $6 million in 2019 and $7.5 million in 2020. Condo, Raiders will part ways: The Raiders will not bring back Jon Condo next season, according to a tweet by the longtime long snapper.

Condo, 36, is scheduled to become a free agent Wednesday. He has been with the Raiders for 12 seasons and was their second-longest-tenured player last season behind kicker Sebastian Janikowski, whom the team also will not bring back.

A Raiders spokesman said he could not confirm the decision on Condo. In a statement posted to Twitter, Condo wrote he had learned about the team’s plans from his agent:

“Earlier today my agent informed me that I will no longer be an Oakland Raider. Words can’t express the gratitude I have for the Davis family. They believed in me for 12 years and it was an honor to represent the Raider shield on and off the field. I will always value the meaning of ‘commitment to excellence’ and ingrain these characteristics in my children.”

— Matt Kawahara Ogletree to Giants: The Rams reportedly have agreed to trade linebacker Alec Ogletree to the Giants for two draft picks.

The Rams also will send a seventh-round pick in 2019 to the Giants along with Ogletree, their defensive captain and last season’s leading tackler. Los Angeles gets New York’s fourth-round and sixth-round picks in the 2018 draft. Jones to pay NFL: Jerry Jones reportedly has agreed to pay the NFL more than $2 million in legal fees from two disputes the Cowboys’ owner had with the league — a lawsuit to overturn the suspension of Dallas running back Ezekiel Elliott, and a threatened lawsuit to stop Goodell’s new contract. Briefly: New England released tight end Martellus Bennett, who was due a $2 million roster bonus. His release will save New England about $6 million in salary-cap space . ... Dallas released defensive end Benson Mayowa in a move that saves $2.8 million against the salary cap as the team tries to absorb a big raise for 2017 team sacks leader DeMarcus Lawrence.
