Leonila Magcawas Javier July 31, 1927 - March 1, 2018 Leonila was an independent woman. She was smart, spirited, and a larger than life personality. A bold and generous woman, full of motherly advice, Leonila instilled in us a tremendous love for life and a strong sense of family and friendship. She is survived by her children Joseline, Arturo and Pedro Jr.; grandchildren, Jennifer, Joselito, Joel and Christopher,; great-grandchildren, Joseph, Florelisa, Sweden, and Anna. She is survived by a large extended family in the U.S.A., Canada and the Philippines. Predeceased in 2008 by her husband of 58 years, Pedro Manalo Javier, Sr. and parents Victoriano and Matea. Born in Lipa City, Batangas Philippines, Leonila was a nurse for over 32 years at Alta Bates Hospital. Leonila and her husband Pedro loved to travel the world, garden and tend to her prized rose collection. She was an extraordinary entertainer and enjoyed celebrations with family and friends, admired as an exceptional cook and an accomplished seamstress. “Mother” as she was known by her family, will be missed for her unconditional love and support, her smile, her laughter and respected for her “take-charge attitude”. The family would like to express our sincerest thanks to her personal caregivers, Josie and Carmen, the doctors, nurses and staff of Marymount Villa, San Leandro and Crossroads Home Health & Hospice. Funeral Mass to celebrate her life will held Friday, March 9 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Basilica, Alameda, CA. Burial to follow at Chapel of the Chimes, Hayward, CA. Reception to follow.
