Cardinals cut Peterson; Packers let Nelson go

Adrian Peterson’s short stint in Arizona is over, and Jordy Nelson’s long stay in Green Bay has ended, too.

One day before the league’s new year begins, seven-time All-Pro running back Peterson was cut Tueseday by the Cardinals, and receiver Nelson was let go by the Packers. Peterson, who turns 33 next week, ranks 12th in the NFL in career rushing with 12,276 yards. Nelson was scheduled to visit the Raiders on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Drew Brees is staying put, having agreed to a two-year, $50 million extension with the Saints, with $27 million guaranteed the first year, according to two people familiar with the contract.

Case Keenum is headed to Denver after leading the Vikings to the conference final and Kirk Cousins will make his first visit as a free agent to Minnesota, which is considered a favorite to sign him.

Philadelph­ia lost two tight ends, cutting Brent Celek and watching Trey Burton sign with Chicago. Five-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Haloti Ngata and linebacker Corey Nelson have agreed to one-year contracts with the Eagles.

The Bears will sign receiver Allen Robinson and kicker Cody Parkey.

Jacksonvil­le linebacker Paul Posluszny, 33, the second-leading tackler in franchise history, retired after 11 seasons. The Jaguars are also poised to sign All-Pro guard Andrew Norwell, and Jags receiver Marqise Lee has agreed to re-sign.

The Giants will sign veteran running back Jonathan Stewart, who was released by Carolina after 10 seasons.

Tennessee agreed to new contracts with two former Patriots, one-time Super Bowl hero Malcolm Butler and running back Dion Lewis.

The Jets and quarterbac­k Josh McCown agreed on a oneyear deal believed to be for $10 million.

Buffalo agreed to a deal with former Carolina tackle Star Lotulelei.

Kansas City will add receiver Sammy Watkins and middle linebacker Anthony Hitchens, filling two glaring needs.

Receiver Albert Wilson is closing in on a $24 million, three-year deal with Miami. The Dolphins also cut controvers­ial linebacker Lawrence Timmons after one season.
