Devoted husband and father, Gary McEntee, 58, of San Mateo, passed away peacefully at home after a decade long battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Kris, and sons Kevin, Michael and Brian.

Gary graduated from Serra High School in 1977 and from University College Dublin, Ireland, in 1982. After graduation he worked for a short time as an insurance agent with John Hancock, Inc. In 1984 he joined his father in forming McEntee Construction. Upon his father’s retirement in 1990, Gary continued to successfully operate the business for the next 27 years.

Gary was a lifetime 49ers, Warriors, and Giants fan. He enjoyed a good game of golf and pitching for Maclacquer’s softball team. He was a 35-year member of the San Mateo Elks Lodge.

Gary had a wide circle of friends both in the US and Ireland. He looked forward to his golf trips to Ireland and spending time with his many good friends from college. Gary was a man of integrity and honesty. Those who were lucky enough to call him their friend, knew this first hand.

“Coach” Gary made a profound impact on an incredible number of boys and girls. He loved coaching both baseball and basketball – whether it was the YMCA, San Mateo Little League, various travel teams or at St. Matthew Catholic School where he coached for over 20 years. He truly enjoyed and had a gift for coaching and was in his element while he was doing it.

Gary will be dearly missed by all who loved and knew him.

There will be no formal services. If you would like to remember him, donations can be made to the Brian Joseph McEntee Special Needs Trust, c/o United American Bank, San Mateo, per Gary’s wishes.
