NAMES & FACES
Drew Brees
The New Orleans Saints’ quarterback says he’s keeping his long-term career goals to himself after signing a two-year, $50 million contract extension. “Just take it one year at a time, but I do have a goal, I do have a vision,” he said a day after agreeing to his deal. Brees, 39, is entering his 18th NFL season. The same day Brees agreed to his deal, the father of four was coaching practice of a firstgrade flag-football team. “Put in a little bit of no-huddle, a little bit of hurry-up offense,” Brees said. “We have a package called Wildcat and a package called Volunteer and then a package called Quad. I’m feeling pretty good about those no-huddle packages.”
Kevin Harvick
The NASCAR Cup driver is taking a little break this week — racing in his hometown of Bakersfield with the minor-leaguers for whom he lobbied after his victory Sunday in Phoenix. Harvick will race Thursday night for the first time at Kern County Raceway Park, the half-mile oval that replaced the Mesa Marin track where he got his start. Harvick will compete in the K&N Pro Series West’s Bakersfield 175. The event also features a Late Model race — the Happy Harvick 50. “I’ve been fortunate enough to have won a lot of races and do a lot of things in my career,” Harvick said. “The goal here is to try to expose other drivers who just need a break.”
