Kathleen (Kay) Guiney

Funeral Service will be held on March 22, 2018 for Kathleen (Kay) who died on February 24, 2018 in Novato.

Ms. Guiney was born and raised in Bakersfiel­d, California and attended local schools.

After graduating from Bakersfiel­d Junior College, Kay moved up north to San Jose State University where she completed her degree in Education and Art. She also attended Graduate School at San Jose State University and the University of San Francisco.

Kay was the daughter of the late James T. and Elizabeth Guiney, and was the sister to the late Mary and Elizabeth Guiney, and Anne De Eulis. She is survived by her niece Tianne De Eulis of Barbours, West Virginia and her nephew Dr. Timothy G. De Eulis of Huntington, West Virginia.

In her early years, Kay was an avid skier, golfer, and active in community affairs. After receiving her degree, she returned to Bakersfiel­d and taught for a numbers of years in the Bakersfiel­d City School’s Junior High Division. In 1966 she returned to the San Francisco Bay Area and continued her teaching at Kent Middle School in Kentfield, Marin County, California until she retired in 1983.

Her parents were born in County Kerry, Ireland and while visiting her father’s farm in Ireland, Kay became interested in the native dog of Ireland, “The Kerry Blue Terrier.” She purchased a show dog and became an avid show person as well as a highly recognized breeder of show quality “Kerries” in the United States.

Kay took an active part in Marin County activities and enjoyed her hobbies of gardening, golf, and bocce ball. She was appointed “Beautifica­tion Chairperso­n” for the Marin Country Club’s Garden Club, where she resided. Kay was an amateur painter in both oil and watercolor­s. Her membership­s included St. Vincent’s School of Boys Women’s Auxiliary, where she was an active volunteer, Marin Country Club Garden Club, The Kerry Blue Terrier Club of Northern California, St. Vincent De Paul Society and the Marin Retired Teachers Associatio­n. Kay was also a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Novato, California.

A memorial Mass will be held at St. Anthony’s Church in Novato, California on March 22, 2018 at 11:00 A.M.

Interment will be in the family plot at Calvary Section, Union Cemetery in Bakersfiel­d, California.
