Mary “Peggy” Miller

-

Peggy Miller passed away peacefully on March 13, 2018 at the age of 98. She was predeceased by her husband George, sisters Kathleen Herbert and Nancy McInnis. She is survived by her sister Joan Antolini, son Thomas (Theresa), and daughter Kathleen (Wilton), five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Mary Margaret Heller was born in Iowa to Aloysius and Kathryn Heller. At the ripe age of ten she decided very firmly that she would be ‘Peggy’. Thereafter, she answered to no other name. That is how all of her relatives, friends and even passing acquaintances knew her from then forward, initially as Peggy Heller and later as Peggy Miller.

As the second of four sisters, her family eventually moved to Bakersfield CA. Later, as a brave young woman of 18, she travelled to San Francisco and opened her own guest house. As a guest, her future husband, George Parker Miller, fell in love with Peggy, and thus began a lifelong love story that endured, during their 70 years of marriage and beyond.

They had a son, Tom, followed by a daughter, Kathy, who in turn blessed Peggy and George with five grandchildren, Brendan Miller, Ann Marie Taheny, Renee Gawrych, Katie Kearns, and Jackie Grosu. Their grandchildren, in turn, brought more joy to Peggy and George, with eight great grandchildren that they treasured, Andrew, Allison, Justin, Daniel, Liam, Parker, Jolie, and Noah.

After raising a family, Peggy embarked on her banking career where she rose through the ranks by applying her business sense and cash register-like mind. She could tell you, well into her 90’s, if there was a discrepancy in the sum of her accounts. But always, driving her, was her love for her family and her undying devotion to her husband. Her warmth, kindness and sense of humor have left an indelible mark on all those she touched throughout her 98 years.

A vigil will take place at Duggan Serra Mortuary, 500 Westlake Ave, Daly City, CA at 7pm on Sunday, March 18th. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11am on Monday, March 19th at Saint Gabriel Church, 2559 40th Ave, San Francisco, CA.

A special Thank You goes out to the wonderful people of Sunrise of Belmont.
